Thursday Overnight
Juniors, Outdoor Explorers, & PAITs
Get ready for an unforgettable adventure at Mountaindale North’s Thursday Overnight, exclusively for campers entering 4th grade and up!
What Happens at the Overnight?
The highly anticipated Thursday Overnight is packed with exciting activities for older campers, from a lively campfire with fun skits to stargazing and exhilarating night hikes. And the best part? Campers will experience the magic of sleeping under the stars in Mountaindale's beautiful meadow.
The fun begins when younger campers depart on Thursday afternoon. The older campers set up their sleeping areas in the meadow and PAITs will set up their sleeping areas at Adirondacks.
Once campers have their sleeping areas set up, dinner will be served at Marilyn's and then everyone heads to Council Fire to watch skits put on by the PAITs unit (that are usually hilarious!)
Council Fire is followed by night hikes and then bedtime. Camp-wide lights out is at 10 pm.
On Friday morning, campers clean up their sleeping areas, pack their gear, and have breakfast at Marilyn's before the other campers arrive.
Overnight Packing List
Your camper will need the following gear:
-
Warm sleeping bag
-
Pillow
-
2 small tarps (or 1 large tarp to fold over) for under and over the sleeping bag to prevent moisture from dew.
-
Sleeping mat (optional)
-
Warm sleeping clothes – Sweatpants and warm socks are a good choice.
-
Complete change of clothing for Friday (check the camp calendar for Friday's theme if your camper wants to participate).
-
Mess kit – washable plastic plate, cup, spoon, fork, knife, and bowl in a Ziploc or mesh bag.
-
Jacket or sweatshirt
-
Non-aerosol bug spray (optional)
-
Toothbrush and toothpaste
-
Personal toiletries
-
Medications (if needed)
-
Flashlight
Make sure your child has enough warm clothing and appropriate sleeping gear to stay comfortable and warm overnight.
Campers will be sleeping under the stars. Please no tents.
Important Reminders:
-
Please pack everything in a duffel bag or large black garbage bag labeled with your child's name and unit name (masking tape works well). Also, make sure to bag up your camper's sleeping bag and pillow.
-
We recommend that campers pack their own bag so they know what they are bringing. Campers should be able to identify all of their belongings as they pack up on Friday morning.
-
Please don't overpack. All camper gear must fit on the buses.
-
Do not bring: electronics, valuables/irreplacables, candy/gum, or anything that cannot get dirty.
Information for Parents
Permission Slip
We will send an email with a permission slip the week before camp, and campers will also get a copy on the Monday of camp week. Please send the permission slip back to camp with your child by Wednesday. It is important that parents return the slip on time so we can get a headcount for buses and food.
Change of Plans
If your camper decides not to stay overnight, please email the camp registrar at registrar@mountaindalenorth.org. The camp needs to know which campers are staying and which ones are leaving by Thursday morning at 8 am.
Taking the Bus
-
Campers will bring their overnight gear with them on the bus to camp on Thursday morning and take it home on Friday afternoon.
-
Campers not staying overnight will return on the bus on Thursday afternoon.
Meals
-
The camp will provide Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast, and Friday lunch. We will email a menu in advance for parents to review.
-
If the foods we provide do not meet your child's dietary needs, you may pack them an alternate meal (please let the camp know so we can make sure all food is kept indoors during the overnight).
Medications
-
If your camper requires medication during the overnight, please send it with them to camp on Thursday, along with a completed Medication Permission Form.
-
Medications should be in their original packaging, clearly labeled with your child’s name and dosage instructions.
-
All medications must be given to the Health Advisor to administer.
-
Campers should go to the first aid station to take their medication while at camp. The Health Advisor will not track them down to ensure that they take their medication.
Emergency Pickup
-
If your camper becomes ill or struggles to stay overnight, we will call you to pick them up.
-
Please ensure that you can receive calls while your camper is at Mountaindale (phone ringer turned on, can receive calls from unknown numbers, etc.)
Please note that Mountaindale North does not offer a late-over option due to the logistics of vehicle entry and exit on the camp's one-way driveway.
